I had the privilege in working with Bart Brentjen’s MTB Team during the 2018 UCI XCO World Cup in Stellenbosch in March 2018.

From doing airport runs, to shopping, cooking, massaging, race day prep, feed zone duties, pre and post race care for Bart’s riders.  This was yet, another amazing opportunity to get to see the “nuts and bolts” of such a successful racing team.

Bart’s team was made up of the following riders: Sebastian Fini (Men Elite), Grant Ferguson (Men Elite), David Nordemann (Men U23), Anne Tauber (Women Elite) and Margot Moschetti (Women Elite).  The support crew:  Bart Brentjens (Team Manager and Red Bull TV commentator) and Eric van Overbeek (Team Mechanic) and Rudi van Houts, gave Eric a hand with their bikes.

It was fascinating to see what these athletes did all day . . . from the time they woke up, they didn’t stop moving, exercising, stretching.  Food obviously is a big thing for athletes 😉

Something really special seeing the UCI World Cup on our trails (OK, next door trails).  To see as many spectators around the course, can only mean that MTB XCO is indeed alive, and kicking.  We can see it here in SA, thanks to the Spur Schools MTB League.  It was inspirational for our young riders to be able to watch this racing in their own back yard!

Well done Anne, on your first podium, in 3rd place, and David, on your 13th place!
