2018 ABSA CAPE EPIC – 100 % success rate for DCS athletes

DCS coaches (L-R):  Lance, Louise, Spook, Erica and Michard

Something we’re very proud of is our 100 % success rate for this year’s ABSA Cape Epic.  A big, big thank you must go to our athletes, for being so diligent with their training, continuous open communication, training rides, but what does seem to stand out is:  DCS BOOT CAMP!  More info on our next DCS Boot Camp will be posted in Oct 2018.

There’s just nothing like spending time ON THE BIKE with our athletes.  Taking them into route areas, familiarising them with terrain, temperatures, conditions, local knowledge, pacing strategies, discussions around hydration and nutrition, and of course, learning how to do road-side repairs during our Bush Mechanics workshop.

Good food, good conversation, like-minded people, with one aim:  to finish the ABSA Cape Epic.

So what is our secret to success with our athletes?????  DCS BOOT CAMP!!

THE DCS TEAM at 2018 ABSA Cape Epic:

Without a great team, we would not be able to achieve success.  It’s like the saying “happy crew – happy athletes”!  We have a 45 collective year relationship between myself, Louise, Spook, Lance and now Michard.  We understand each other well and compliment one another in all aspects.  Always willing to get involved.  What a privilege!  Thank YOU, Team.

Mechanics Team                                                        Massage Team

This year, we decided to treat our “package athletes” (mechanical and massage) (OK, ourselves too), to a luxurious luncheon on the day of the Time Trial in Wellington.  We sourced the help of our long time friends, The Hospitality Guru, Linda Coltart, top Chef from Bread and Wine, Neil Jewell (both athletes of DCS), as well as school-days and best friend Julie Crowther and her husband, Charlie Crowther, also “friends of ABSA Cape Epic” – ‘Charlie’s Heaven fame (we like to keep things “in the family: ;)) and this team, for sure, completely exceeded our expectations and delivered a spread that made the best restaurants around weep!  Check this out:

What a way for our ABSA Cape Epic athletes enjoy a shortened day, spend time with their families and exchange stories about the event, put their feet up, take a breather.  What a fabulous and utter feast we had!  (We will be doing this again for 2019 #justsaying)

We look forward to being part of your preparation for the 2019 edition of the ABSA Cape Epic!
