WHAT IS A TRAINING CAMP?

Training camps are training rides for two or more consecutive days, usually falling over a weekend. They’re generally aimed at riders preparing for stage racing, and therefore require a certain level of fitness.

Riding distances range from 60 km per day to 120 km per day depending on the format and purposed of the training camp. They’re a great way to see some of our country’s splendid surrounds, they’re fun but, without a doubt, you’ll be breaking more than just a little sweat.

We limit the group sizes as well as the routes, guides and back-up. Preventative safety and emergency measures are taken to ensure optimum safety of all riders and our back-up vehicle meets us at certain points for food and hydration refills.

DCS Training Camps have limited mechanical assistance – so everyone needs to carry their own spares. This is true mountain biking, not a stroll down the promenade so please be prepared.

THE PURPOSE OF A TRAINING CAMP

  • Is to expose riders to back-to-back riding/training
  • These camps will put you through the paces of stage racing events such as Sani2C, Wines2Whales and the Cape Epic so you can get an idea of training requirements and where you can learn some tactics necessary to tackle a multi-day stage race
  • To give riders the opportunity to experiment with equipment, nutrition, recovery, etc. necessary for stage racing
  • To monitor riders “on-the-bike” with:
    • General bike setup
    • Pedal technique
    • Technical skills
    • Nutrition
    • Pacing
    • Climbing
    • Descending
    • Riding in a group
    • What happens each day on an event?
