MARCH 2012 AT DAISYWAY COACHING SYSTEMS

DCS - Ride Your Best!
Whew! Where do we start?!

SA PARA CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

After a huge bout of “pneumonia” Michelle and Kamelen made an amazing come-back to win Gold at SA Para Championships http://www.cyclingsa.com/Article.aspx?uid=784
James van Rensburg also took Gold in his racing! Please visit above link for all details and results! Well done guys and girls!!

TRAC JUNIOR TOUR

Our Junior Coach, Bernard Venter, put together a composite team, sponsored by Intellibus, for the 2012 TRAC Junior Tour. This team consists of mountain bikers, with relatively little road racing experience. The results show, that mountain bikers learn a great deal of bike savvy, as well make excellent climbers - so for the doubters out there, once again, this proves the point - a good mountain biker makes a good roadie!
Well done Bernard for nurturing this team up there! Dylan finished 2nd overall and Team Intellibus finished as the top team of the event! Simply the BEST!

2012 ABSA CAPE EPIC

Wow! What a week - what unbelievable conditions - from over 40 degrees, to almost zero degrees! Gale force winds, you name it! It happened. All our celebrity riders (Elana Meyer and Vanessa Haywood) rode like seasoned pros - and yes, they finished in fine style!
In the history of the Cape Epic, there have only been 2 VERY rainy days. This had to be one of the hardest Epics, ever! The routes were pretty brutal, climbing was almost, the whole way to heaven! So, hats off to ALL of you that finished - WELL DONE!

DCS had 42 riders in this year’s event. Only one of our riders did not finish due to a bizarre turn of events that led to dehydration.

Sakkie and Hannes Hanekom (Team Tru Cape) was our top team finish, ending up in 20th overall! EbenEspach, the rookie mountain biker ending on 37th overall, with his partner Carel Vosloo! Fantastic achievement!

Waiting at the finish line each day and checking the results to check that your athletes have ALL come in, is quite a stressful job (easier being a rider . . . he he!!)

A huge thanks to all our partners: IPMG, First Ascent, Wilde Fruit Juice, Scott bicycles and Motorex for your use of gazebos. Our riders really did enjoy being able to hang out and talk about their day’s war stories! It was a relaxing atmosphere!

Spook and Arno - great job in the mechanical department - you really ensured our teams were good to go each day. Thanks for burning the midnight oil on the VERY rainy day!!

Louise and your team of massage therapists - thankfully no major injuries that needed patching up. Great job GIRLS!

See you next time!

2013 ABSA CAPE EPIC

This event is going to be a special one - the 10 year anniversary! Daisyway Coaching Systems is under-going a couple of very positive changes. One of the changes is going to be possibly working with a few less athletes, so that we can deliver a better service to athletes.

We will begin preparation in May 2012 for this event, so if you are looking for multi-day event specialist coaching, don’t hesitate to sign up early!

PROVINCIAL TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS

Nicole van der Merwe is proving to be real dynamite - whether it’s on the track, road or mountain bike. Her passion is on the track. A new-comer to cycling (point), she has, in the past 3 months tackled an SA MTB XCO Cup race on a very tricky and technical course in Durbanville, SA Road and Time Trial Champs, provincial track championships, and head to SA Track Championships at the end of April 2012! Nicole won every event she entered this past weekend, whether it was sprint events or endurance events. She has shown tremendous “big match temperament”, being able to take information in and act on it, VERY PRECISELY!

Onwards and upwards Nicole, well done and keep up the fantastic work!
